Abstract:Based on the collation of different versions of historical earthquake catalogs, this paper conducted a comprehensive and systematic revision for the historical earthquakes in Hubei by using the historical seismic data as well as research achievements in seismology, earthquake geology and other related disciplines. We collected the regional seismogeological data and the field investigation data of earthquakes occurring in Hubei since 1990, which combining with local economic, geological and architectural characteristics to redetermine the seismic intensity of the sensitive area. The correspondence between seismic intensity and magnitude is re-calibrated by analyzing the seismic intensity attenuation relationship in some regions. The parameters of the magnitude and time of some historical earthquakes in the earthquake catalogue are revised by using the empirical formula. Finally, 15 missing historical earthquakes are extracted and redefined, and 3 other historical earthquakes are revised. The results are of great significance for new seismic zoning and historical earthquake researches.
