Abstract:Combined with ASTM F320-2010 ASTM International standard test method for hail impact resistance of aerospace transparent enclosures, two kinds of shape, seven kinds of content of fiber reinforced ice cylinders and ice balls are made. Via the universal testing machine, under two loading rate the hail compression experiment was done, exploring the failure mechanism and mechanical properties of hail. As opposed to clear ice, this paper found that the fiber content has improved effect on the hail compressive strength, however, different fiber content under different loading rate has different effect on the performance of the hail compressive strength. In the end, the results show that impact test with 6% fiber content of artificial hail should be incorporated into future commercial aircraft airworthiness certification tests.
