Tower or chimney may occur the wind-induced vibration. DES (Detached Eddy Simulation) method based on SST (Shear Stress Transport) two-equation turbulence model was used to solve Navier-Stokes equations, simulate the incompressible viscous flow around a smooth circular tower. Grid-independent solution and time step-independence solution is obtained. Reynolds Number (Re) and turbulence intensity were studied. Velocity field, the lift coefficient, the drag coefficient, Strouhal number (St) and other results agree well with experimental data and other numerical results. The results show that, 1) DES method is valid and credible to simulate flow around a smooth circular tower. 2).The lift coefficient and the Strouhal number declines 11.5% and 5.2% while the drag coefficient changes less than 3% as the turbulence intensity rises from 1% to 10%.
