This paper deduces the theoretical estimation error of a correlation based frequency estimator which offers the criterion for choosing parameters in different applications. And the DSP implement of the estimator is given in the paper. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the algorithm has a wide acquisition range and its performance approaches the CRB (Cramer Rao Bound). The algorithm can be applied in carrier frequency recovery schemes in TDMA communication systems and OFDM systems.
