In order to study the ablation characteristics of high energy nitramine propellant, a semi-closed ablation reactor was used and the changes of the surface structure of the erosion tube after reaction with the propellant gas was analyzed. The results show that, there are obvious network cracks with an average crack width of 97 nm under the action of high temperature and high pressure propellant gas. Photoelectron spectroscopy results show that, ferrous iron and ferric iron are formed on the inner wall of the erosion tube after the ablation reaction. Moreover, there is nitrogen permeation on the surface. However, no obvious peaks of FeO, Fe2O3 or Fe3O4 are found by X-ray powder diffraction test. Possibly, because the relative content of these high valent iron compounds in the mixture is too low, which is not within the detection sensitivity range of the XRD instrument. The obtained results can provide a reference for the formulation design and optimization of high energy nitramine propellant.
