To overcome some defects of traditional tuning methods of the PI controller on precision and disturbance, a PSO-GSA algorithm based design method is proposed for the fuzzy PI controller of the brushless DC motor system. By combining the global exploring ability of PSO with the local exploiting ability of GSA, the PSO-GSA algorithm performs an excellent optimum searching ability. The PSO-GSA algorithm is then used for the optimization of the quantization factor and scale factor of the fuzzy PI controller, thus a real-time and high-precision regulator can be achieved for the fuzzy PI controller. The simulations and experiments show that better stability and robustness can be obtained for the brushless DC motor control system via this method, and the accuracy of the speed control can be significantly advanced.
