Abstract:The Wulungu area is one of the important exploration areas in Junggar Basin. At present, low oil flow has been obtained. It means that the area has higher exploration potential. But the resource potential and enrichment law are unclear, and the exploitation risk is large. Based on geochemical methods, including main element, trace element, rare-earth element, this paper explored the geochemical characteristics of volcanic rocks in the region in order to reveal the source areas and tectonic environmental characteristics of Carboniferous. The results show that the lower Carboniferous rock samples all have low content of TiO2,and depleted in Nb、Ta,like the characteristics of volcanic arc;the upper Carboniferous rock samples have high content of TiO2,and the characteristic of LREE and LILE enrichment, what show that the set of basalt formed in an intraplate setting. What is more, these characteristics suggest that these basalts have crust source characteristics. Tectonic discrimination diagrams and source discrimination charts have also show that. It also means that the Wulungu area underwent a process from volcanic arc to intraplate setting. The results of this study are instructive to the study of tectonic evolution and reservoir formation conditions in this area and adjacent areas.
